Introduction

Nepal has some of the most stunning treks in the Himalayas which takes you to new extremes. The country borders India and Tibet on both its sides which makes Nepal a special place for all the trekkers and mountaineers all around the world. One of the most famous treks in Nepal is Annapurna Base Camp Trek which lands itself in the eight thousanders club. 

A lot of trekkers and mountaineers from all over the world travel to Nepal in hope of trekking in the youngest and highest mountain ranges of the world. Annapurna Base Camp Trek requires a lot of preparations, planning and training before you commence your journey. Believe it or not, the Annapurna peak ranks 10th highest in the world and is equally fatal when it comes to the climb. Despite having this mysterious dark aura of Annapurna, the trek trail is dynamic in its terrain. It takes you from the dense Himalayan pine oak tree forest, glaciers  to the snow clad mountain peak of Machapuchare. The stunning views start right from Pokhara continuing in Ghandruk, Dovan and Deurali. Not only will you see Machapuchare but also the peaks of Gangapurna, Gandharva Chuli, Hiunchuli etc. 

 

The trek lasts for 10 days where you trek almost 10 km per day. The trek trail ranges from moderate to difficult scale which needs to be done with prior experience and training.

Following is a concise description of the itinerary of Annapurna Base Camp;

 

 

Day 1 : 

Get to Pokhara a day before the trek and meet the trek group for orientation and debriefing of the tre you are about to commence the next day.  Also, welcome to Nepal. 

 

 

Day 2 : 

Leave for Ghandruk/Kimche  from your accommodation early in the morning, covering a distance of 55 km from a 3-4 hour drive.  After resting for a while, start your trek from Kimche to Komrong and spend the night.

 

 

Day 3 : 

Depart from Komrong towards Chomrung, the largest village in the Annapurna conservation area. Your accommodation for the day  is in tea houses. The distance covered is 7 km estimated to take 5-6 hours from Komrong.

 

 

Day 4 :

Chomrung to Dovan. This is where you will enter the eight thousands height. The trek distance covered is 10 km. 

 

 

Day 5 ; 

Dovan to Machapuchare base camp. The trek distance is 10 km and the estimated time is 5-6 hours. The elevation has drastically increased hence be careful not to exhaust yourself and take necessary breaks. 

 

 

Day 6 :

Machapuchare Base Camp  to Annapurna Base Camp the main section of the trek. This patch of the trek is the most scenic and breathtaking one. The trek distance covered is approximately 4 kms. Have the best night of your life by staring into the Himalayan abyss. 

 

 

Day 7 :

ABC to Bamboo here is the longest stretch of the trek which is about 15 km and the hike for the day lasts for 8-9 hours.

 

 

Day 8 : 

Bamboo to Jhinu is where you will start the descent and cover a 10 km distance within 6-7 hours. 

 

 

Day 9 : 

Jhinu to Pokhara. The trek distance is 6 km with the shortest distance of 4 hours. 

 

 

Day 10 :

This is buffer day which every trek needs just in case of emergencies or unfavorable  weather conditions. 


Cost Of Annapurna Base camp trek

The cost of ABC trek differs when you book your flight tickets and on the trekking gear shopping in Kathmandu. It is obvious that you are traveling from another country and entering Nepal in hopes to conquer this astounding trek. One thing to lookout for is the budget specifically speaking of the flight tickets as a major chunk of your budget is spent here. Make sure you book your ticket well in advance and save as much as possible. If planned correctly, the average cost per person for ABC trek is Rs. 29,950 excluding the buffer day extra charges. 

 

The trek to ABC also requires prior training for the climb and difficult patches in the trek. There are oximeters, oxygen cylinders, high altitude kit, and first aid are carried by the trek modulator and the team. It is recommended to travel with a group of professionals who are experts in navigating the trek.
